Great Dining for Great Prices

citing and unique to do in nearby Philly after a long month of Winter Break, Center City District Restaurant Week was definitely the best way to kick off syllabus week and explore some great deals on great food before the workload began.

Restaurant Week featured more than 100 restaurants in Center City Philadelphia, which provided special menus from Jan. 14-28. For a price of $35, at the most, you got a fully-satisfying three course meal of high quality cuisine. It was quite the bargain. Restaurants include 1225 Raw Sushi and Sake Lounge, El Vez, Barbuzzo, Capitol Grille, Amada, Continental and so much more.

I decided to take advantage of this opportunity to get some delicious food off campus with some friends on our first Thursday night back at school. We went to Barbuzzo, a four and half star Mediterranean restaurant. The course started off with a delicious sheep’s milk ricotta appetizer, which the whole table devoured within two minutes. But that was not all. We also got a choice of our own individual appetizers, from which I chose a roasted raw pear bruschetta on toasted bread. For the main course, I took advantage of the amazing fixed price deal and got myself a braised short rib that was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. For the best part, I got a tiramisu for dessert. My roommate got a salted caramel budino which I, of course, had to try as well. We were stuffed by the end of our dinner, but eating all that food for $35 at a four and half star restaurant was too good not to take advantage of every bite.

So make sure you keep an eye out next year for Center City District Restaurant Week. It’s a great deal for great food. If you can’t wait an entire year, do not fret. There’s a Main Line Restaurant week coming up April 25-May 1, so be sure to check it out if you’re ever in the mood to explore some of the delicious restaurants right here in our backyards.
