Dear procrastinators,
If you are anything like me, you may have forgotten that Halloween is actually in two days. If you are really like me, you may still not be sure what your plans are or what you are dressing up as. That is okay, we will figure it out together.
Step one to the perfect Halloween is the perfect costume. Believe it or not, there are many ways to use what you already own and transform into an icon character, person or thing.
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
A classic children’s book transformed into a cute and easy Halloween costume. All you need is a white top, overalls (or jeans), mouse ears and real or fake cookies. Cute, comfortable and you and your friends get to snack all night.
Pinkalicious
Growing up, this was my favorite book series. Not only is it cute and nostalgic, it is also simple and easy to throw together. Put on as much pink as you own and you are all set and ready to head out. For bonus points add on a crown and a wand.
Men in Black
If you and all your friends need a last minute costume, find some black pants or skirts and a white button down to transform into men in black. If you can, add a black tie and make some DIY lanyard ID badges. Want to go above and beyond? Have one friend dress up as an alien to complete the look.
A cat
A cat, or really any animal, is a classic for a reason. It is cute, easy and recognizable. If you are the type who does not want to be asked a million times what they are dressed as, this is the route for you.
An angel and a devil
Looking for a couple’s costume or one to wear with your best friend? Angel and devil is another classic for a reason. You can either go full out with halos and horns, or take the more simple route of wearing all white or red.
The second step to a perfect Halloween is plans. While it can be hard to navigate, here is what is happening in the local area this Hallo-weekend.
1. If you are looking for an all-around spooky evening, head to the Eastern State Penitentiary for the largest Haunted House in the nation. The prison hosts 11 attractions across its 11 acres of land. These attractions will be open for select dates through Nov. 8.
2. For everyone 21 and older, the official Philly Halloween Bar Crawl will be running on both Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. Tickets are limited and you must be 21 or older to enter. The crawl includes famous bars across the city, a perfect opportunity to try out new places.
3. The Grog Grill: If you are looking for something more local, head to The Grog Grill at 9 p.m. on Oct. 31 for its Halloween event. For those 21 and older, there will be a night of specials and tastings, as well as a costume contest for the best dressed.
4. Kelly’s Taproom: Of course, a classic for Villanova seniors is to head to Kelly’s Taproom on Oct. 31 in your best Halloween costume. Pro tip: get there early, the line will be long, but the night will be worth it.
5. Fun with friends: Of course, you do not need to go out to have fun this Halloween. If staying in is more your speed, put on your comfiest fall sweats or pajamas, put on your favorite fall movie and heat up some apple cider for a cozy night in.
Halloween is what you decide to make of it, so have fun and do not forget to get your candy on Nov. 1 from the store half off.
With love always,
Lauren
