Dorm Olympics

his past Saturday Inter-Hall Council (IHC) held the first ever Dorm Olympics competition on South Campus. Students from all residence halls were welcomed to compete as part of a six person team in seven events. 20 teams tested their skills and competed for a variety of prizes.

Sumo Wrestling, Velcro Wall Jumping, Team Twister and an “Earthball” Volleyball Tournament were the main events. Building dorm pride and having fun were the focus of the day. Tech Crew supplied the music and there were hamburgers, hot dogs, cotton candy, funnel cake and drinks to keep the competitors energized.

“The success of the day far outweighed our expectations,” Mike Fiorentino said, Publicity Coordinator for the IHC. “Since this was our first attempt at Dorm Olympics, we weren’t sure what the turn-out would be like.”

The “T,” a St. Mary’s Team, took first place with each member winning a gift certificate to a main line restaurant. The CASA All-Stars claimed second place, while Good Council’s “Southern Comfort” team rounded out the top three. All teams were invited back to “Late Night” in Belle Aire Terrace to recount stories from the day and receive their hard earned prizes.

“The Inter-Hall Council has worked diligently this semester to ensure Dorm Olympics would be a success,” Katie DiPerna, President of the IHC Executive Board said. “We thought this would be a great way to develop hall identity and hope that it will become an annual Villanova spring-time tradition.”
