In a match between two injury-plagued squads Tuesday, Villanova Women’s Volleyball won the first game, only to struggle down the stretch and lose to Temple 3-1. The second game was tied 24-24 before the Owls offense sprung into action and swept the last three games. Kerry Sullivan led the way for the Cats with 11 Kills as they fell to 2-5 in a season where 4 starters have lost playing time to injury. Temple, ranked #27 in preseason polls, outhit an opponent for the first time this year .214 to .072 to notch their first win. Margaret Majewska’s 15 kills and a sloppy Villanova offense pushed the Owls to victory. “Our outside hitters struggled with their passing and put pressure on our offense,” said VU coach Allison Keeley. The loss came after the team went 2-1 at the George Washington invitational last weekend where sophomore hitter Celine Nguyen and freshman blocker Adrian Semrau both were named to the All-Tournament Team. The wins over Coppin State and Lafayette featured a more diverse offensive attack as 4 different players registered double-digit kills. “Kerry Sullivan and Katie Lanting both had good offensive games. We had been looking for them to step up,” said Keely, “We’ve been playing well against some solid teams The Cats head to Colorado this weekend for games against Oregon and Colorado.
