University president announces resignation

Rev. Edmund J. Dobbin, O.S.A., announced Monday that he will resign from his post as University president. In an email to the Villanova community, Dobbin said that he will step down at the end of the 2005-06 school year.

“This is a decision that I have considered for some time,” Dobbin wrote in the email. “It is obviously difficult to step down from a position that I enjoy so much. However, with the University positioned strongly to face the challenges of the future, the time has come to prepare for a new generation of Augustinian leadership at our great University.”

Dobbin first made his decision public at the June meeting of the Board of Trustees.

He has served as University president since 1988.
