How to find the Look for Less

Among the slew of reality television show that demand participants to fight for a spouse, eat insects and prove they are America’s next idol, fashion has put its own spin on this current television trend.

The objectives of fashion reality television shows are hardly less extreme. For example, in the Style Network’s “The Look for Less,” participants meet up with a professional stylist to search the local mall for runway styles at bargain prices. Together, the stylist and participant frantically put together an inexpensive ensemble that looks like it came fresh from the glossy pages of “Vogue.”

While Villanova students may not have the luxury of their own stylist or television show funding, they also can get “the look for less.” At well-loved designer stores like Guess and Coach, King of Prussia Mall and shops along the Main Line offer this season’s greatest looks with even more appealing price tags.

If you are searching for a new outfit for your hot Valentine’s Day date or a big party this weekend, and your wardrobe is looking stale, stores such as Forever 21, Target and DSW Shoe Warehouse will have you looking your best for less.

Forever 21, located in the King of Prussia Mall, is a great place to find trendy outfits and accessories for any occasion. They offer a selection of cut-off jean skirts (including plain minis at $20 and studded denim for $30) that are like the ones found at Abercrombie and Fitch that retail for $50 and $60.

Tank tops with the built-in-bra system that are sold in the Gap, Express and Victoria’s Secret for $20 can be found at Forever 21 for $5 each or two for $9 dollars.

Also, Forever 21 has a large selection of bangles, chandelier earrings, strings of funky beads and other accessories. These pieces look great with anything and are almost all under $10.

Target is not just for supplying Villanova students with dorm essentials anymore. It also provides great fashion finds, such as international designer Luella’s recently revealed spring line of clothing and accessories. Rugby shirts for $25 in a variety of colors and Bermuda shorts will be trendy for the spring season. Also, funky empire-waist cocktails dresses for any formal on campus can be found for $40 in Luella’s line.

Spring break is coming soon, and a new bathing suit is a must. Why spend a fortune on one bathing suit when you could buy Luella separates at Target for $20? There are cute prints such as cherries, stars and funky graffiti. There are also great bags in the Luella line that would be perfect for toting around books on campus.

Finally, what bargain ensemble would be complete without a pair of shoes? For hot shoes at the lowest prices, stop by the DSW Shoe Warehouse located off Ardmore Avenue. Here one can find brand names including Kenneth Cole, BCBG Girls, Steve Madden and many more.

Like most college students, we Villanovans have to watch our spending, but that shouldn’t stop us from looking our best. Next time you need a fabulous outfit, grab your friends and shop the Main Line for the “look for less.”
