Water polo preps for exciting 2006 season

The women’s water polo team is looking forward to another strong season this year. After a tough loss in the MAAC conference championship to Wagner last season, they are training harder than ever under new head coach Damon Newman with hopes of winning the conference this year.

Senior goalie Jess Wells expressed tremendous satisfaction with the team’s progress and attitude so far this season.

Speaking of coach Newman, Wells said “He has done very well in telling the players what he wants and is constantly working towards team goals.”

The team currently is focusing on matches against other conference teams that will prepare them for the conference championship in April. Although small in numbers, the team consists of a strong group of returning players, led by senior driver Kim Pare and sophomore two-meter defender Christina Dopp.

According to Wells, the small numbers of the team means, “everyone is a key player and will usually end up playing most positions throughout the course of the game.”

The team’s goals are challenging, but with a strong work ethic and aspiration to reach them, the women’s water polo team will have a successful season.
