Although Villanova outscored their opponent for more than half of the game, an 11-0 Colgate run handed ‘Nova their fifth loss of the season, 12-4. The loss extended the Wildcats’ record to 2-5 (0-2 Patriot League).

Villanova sophomore Kathleen Kelly started off the scoring four minutes into the game. After a goal by Colgate to tie the game, freshman midfielder Shannon Sullivan gave the ‘Cats the go-ahead goal. Sullivan’s goal, however, would be the last for ‘Nova for the next eleven goals.

The Colgate scoring run began with 19:35 to go in the first half and extended into the first minute of the second. While this was the only goal that Villanova allowed the Raiders to score in the second half, they were not able to make up the deficit created in the first period. Kelly scored her second goal of the game at the 13:51 mark of the second period and Christina Bahrs completed the scoring for the day with under two minutes to go in the game.

Jessica Brozena made five saves en route to a loss for the Wildcats, making her record just 1-5 for the season. Although Colgate outshot ‘Nova 25-6 in the first half (31-18 for the game), the Wildcats were almost even with the Raiders on groundballs (24-23 Colgate) and turnovers (26-23 Colgate).

Villanova next takes on American University in Washington, D.C. Saturday at noon.

The ‘Cats return home on March 29 for a match against Monmouth at 3:30 p.m. in the Villanova Stadium.
