After losing three straight matches, the men’s tennis team stepped up and won its next three matches. Over spring break, ‘Nova traveled to Orlando, Fla. and played four matches in five days, winning three. The Wildcats faced Mt. Saint Mary’s, Salve Regina, St. Peter’s and Old Dominion.

In their first match, the ‘Cats took all but one singles match and won all three doubles matches. In the number one singles spot, Dimitri Chimerakis swept Mt. St. Mary’s Bobby Cozzillio.

In their second match against Salve Regina, the Wildcats only won one out of three doubles matches. They were, however, able to pull out with the victory by winning five of the six singles matches and winning the match 5-2.

In its match against St. Peter’s, the Wildcats did not lose one set and beat St. Peter’s 7-0. Two days later, the Wildcats faced Old Dominion University but were unable to complete their sweep in Orlando. The Wildcats won only one match on the day and fell to the Monarchs, 6-1. Despite the bitter ending to the trip, the Wildcats were able to move their record above .500 to 5-4.

The women’s tennis team also traveled to Orlando over spring break but didn’t quite have the same results as the men’s team did. They too played four matches in five days but were only able to earn a split.

In its first match in Orlando, ‘Nova faced Mt. St. Mary’s and won all of the singles matches. The team also took one out of three doubles matches defeating Mt. St. Mary’s 6-1.

In the Wildcats next competition against James Madison, the Dukes won a tight match, edging out ‘Nova 4-3. James Madison and Villanova split the singles matches with three a piece but the Dukes were able to take two out of three of the doubles matches to hand the Wildcats their third loss of the season.

After the tough loss, the Wildcats bounced back and swept Robert Morris, winning every set of the contest. However, later that day, the Wildcats squared off against Old Dominion and, like the men’s team, were unable to end their trip with a win. The Monarchs defeated the Wildcats 7-0.

Both teams will square off against Big East rival Connecticut on Friday at home at 1:00 pm.
