The Wildcats battled Wagner and Siena at the Villanova Swim Center on Saturday, April 15. Wagner, MAAC’s No. 1 seed, proved to be tough competition as usual, defeating Villanova 13-6. At the half, Villanova trailed only 5-3, but struggled in the third quarter when Wagner picked up five more goals.

Senior standout Kim Pare, who was recently named MAAC offensive player of the week, scored three goals against Wagner, while senior goalie Jess Wells recorded eight saves. Later that day against Siena, Pare had another three goals, while sophomore defender Christina Dopp and sophomore driver Carla Martinez added two goals each. Pare had seven saves as well as two assists.

With 1:07 left in the final quarter, Villanova found itself tied with Siena 8-8. With only 41 seconds to go, the Wildcats scored again, holding on to their one-goal lead to win by a score of 9-8. Head coach Damon Newman spoke positively of the team’s efforts this season and this past weekend. “The girls are doing a great job and are working extremely hard. This past weekend we went 1-1 and put ourselves in good position to qualify for the MAAC Championships.”

Currently, the team is in second place in the conference with four games left. The top four teams will qualify for the MAAC Championships April 29-30.
