Foster sets school record for goals

For senior forward Megan Foster, it has been an unbelievable season so far. Just last week, Foster was voted both Big East Player of the Week as well as Division I Player of the Week. In addition, Villanova (8-3, 2-0 Big East) jumped two spots in the national rankings after an upset against No. 9 UConn. On Sunday, Foster set a new school record when she scored her 57th goal against Lehigh (2-6). Not only did she break Villanova’s record of 56 goals, but she also contributed an additional four goals later in the game, leading Villanova to a blistering 9-2 victory.

Foster’s new record was not the only one set in the game against Lehigh, as senior midfielder Lauren Campanelli tied the record for career assists, after adding three for a career total of 32. Earlier in the week against the Scarlet Knights, Campanelli had an assist in the game-winning goal scored by junior Catherine Somits. Villanova clutched a close 2-1 victory over the Big East rival, scoring the tie-breaking goal with just two minutes left on the clock.

As of Tuesday, Villanova’s undefeated Big East record stood at 2-0, which was tied with both Syracuse and Providence.

With the recent wins, record breakings and high rankings, it is easy for the team to get caught up in its achievements and neglect the areas that still need improvement. However, even before their first game of the season, head coach Joanie Milhous had stressed the importance of taking the season one day at a time.

So far, the team has shown that it is capable of great things. Now all it needs to do is maintain that focus and prove itself as a top-caliber program against its toughest competitors.

The Wildcats will take on the LaSalle Explorers at home at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
