Season Recap: Women’s Lacrosse
May 2, 2007
The women’s lacrosse team split its final two games in the season this past weekend. After losing 15-4 loss at Deleware on Friday evening, the ‘Cats finished the season strong with a 18-4 blowout victory against the St. Francis Red Flash on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats finished the season with a 7-9 record.
The Wildcats took an early control of the game Sunday, with junior Stevie McFadden scoring her first of three tallies of the afternoon. Villanova extended its lead to 4-0 within the first 11 minutes of the game with goals from sophomore Taryn McKenna and freshmen Kyler O’Shea and Meg Wallace. Although the Red Flash responded with three goals of its own throughout the half, the Wildcats continued dominating the game. McFadden completed her hat trick en route to solidifying an 11-4 Villanova lead going into the half.
Senior Christina Bahrs opened the second-half scoring less than a minute in, netting a goal off a pass from McKenna. Just 40 seconds later, O’Shea scored her third of the game. The Wildcats continued to hold off St. Francis and did not allow a goal in the second half. The final game of the ’07 season concluded after five more Villanova goals, including one from goaltender senior Jessica Brozena with less than seven minutes to go in the game, bringing the afternoon’s total to 18-4. The final set of goals also sported Bahrs’ second of the game and team-leading 29th goal in her final season as a Wildcat.
All three of the Villanova goalies saw playing time in the victory. Brozena played all of the first period, securing the win.
While the Wildcats will be losing the services of very influential threats in both ends of the field in Bahrs and Brozena and defender Marissa Lucy, they will be the only seniors departing from the squad.
