Despite consecutive victories in the No. 3 and 4 singles positions, the women’s tennis team was unable to stage a comeback against the California University of Pennsylvania in its season opener last Friday. The ‘Cats are 0-1 this season after the 5-2 loss at the Villanova West Campus Tennis Complex. The team got off to a rough start as the Vulcans of California University of Pennsylvania swept all three doubles spots. Victories in the No. 3 and 4 singles spots from freshman Emily Urda and sophomore Courtney Reed gave the Wildcats their only two points. However, the Vulcans won the remaining four singles positions, which gave them the points they needed to secure the win. The team will be back in action tomorrow against the Manhattan Jaspers at the Villanova Tennis Complex at 2 p.m.
