Men’s Tennis: Villanova defeats Hofstra, Monmouth

The men’s tennis team faced a close matchup with Hofstra on March 29, with the Wildcats narrowly defeating the Pride 4-3.

The Wildcats jumped to a 1-0 lead as they swept the doubles matches. The doubles teams of senior Dimitri Chimerakis and junior Brian Maher and freshmen David Shaheen and Alex Leeser both won their matches by scores of 8-2, while freshmen Trenton Alenik and John Drosick went 8-4 in their match.

In the singles matches, it was a close battle with the two teams splitting the six matches. Maher, Shaheen and sophomore Brett Tobin had victories at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. The sweep in the doubles matches helped the Wildcats earn their second straight victory.

In their match against Monmouth the following day, the Wildcats successfully swept every match but one, eventually winning the contest by a score of 7-1. Tom Corrie of Monmouth won the Hawk’s sole victory in his singles match against Maher. Alenik, Chimerakis, Leeser, Shaheen and Tobin all won their singles matches by significant margins. In doubles play, the teams of Maher and Chimerakis, Alenik and Drosick and Shaheen and Leeser defeated their Monmouth opponents.
