The Wildcats were unable to catch the Birds this past Saturday, as the men’s lacrosse team (1-7, 0-1 CAA) fell to the Delaware Blue Hens (6-2, 1-0 CAA) with an 8-4 loss at Rullio Stadium in the team’s CAA opener. The Wildcats were held scoreless in the first half, making it tough to gain any advantage.

Junior Tim Driscoll put the ‘Cats on the board in the third quarter, just two minutes into the period. The game became closer just three minutes later when sophomore Paul Webber found the net, pulling the ‘Cats to within a 5-2 deficit. Delaware quickly answered with two more goals, increasing its lead to 7-2.

‘Nova was able to find the goal in the fourth quarter though, as the ‘Cats netted two more goals. Junior Dan Liva scored his first goal of the season with 13:53 remaining. Then Driscoll brought the ‘Cats within three with his second goal of the game and his 13th of the season. The Blue Hens were able to put one more on the board before the whistle blew, and the Wildcats’ chances of a comeback ended.

Junior goalie Andrew DiLoreto had 13 saves for ‘Nova, but it was not enough for the ‘Cats to bring home a “W” this week.

The team will take the field again on Saturday at 1 p.m., this time on home turf against the Sacred Heart Pioneers. — K.M.
