Rowing: ‘Nova boats place in Knecht Cup

The rowing team took part in the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J., this weekend. The team competed in a number of events, winning the women’s varsity pair, women’s second varsity four and women’s single.

On the morning of April 12, conditions were perfect for rowing, as there was no wind, flat water and temperatures in the 60s. Conditions were also good but a bit cooler the following day, with temperatures in the 50s. In the women’s varsity pair, Villanova finished first in its heat and went on to win the entire event by rowing to a time of 8:33.3 in the final.

In the women’s varsity four, the Villanova boat made it to the petite final after finishing third in its first heat of this event and fourth in its semi-final heat. Villanova came in first place in the petite final, rowing to a time of 7:57.3 and beating Loyola, UNC, Penn State, Duquesne and Tulsa.

After coming in second place in their heat in the Women’s Second Varsity Four, the ‘Cats rowed to a first-place finish in the final of this event. They finished with a time of 7:41.5, beating BC, whom they had lost to in the semi-finals, by 6.5 seconds.

In the second women’s varsity eight event, the team did not get past its heat, rowing to a time of 7:33.4 and finishing fourth. The team made it to the third final in the women’s varsity eight event and finished second behind Lehigh with a time of 6:57.0.

The team will next compete in the Big East Championships, which will begin on April 27.
