Villanova’s chapter of the communication honor society Lambda Pi Eta will hold its annual induction ceremony this Saturday.

University President Rev. Peter Donohue, O.S.A., will be present to provide a blessing and give a benediction.

The ceremony will be held at the Drexelbrook Banquet Facility and will begin at 5:30 p.m.

“We are extremely excited to have Father Peter join us at our banquet,” said Tony Popowski, president of Villanova’s chapter of Lambda Pi Eta. “We are thrilled he is taking time out of his schedule to honor academic achievement.”

The society will initiate 40 new members at the ceremony.

“We are very proud of our new members,” said Dr. Stacey Wieland, adviser to Lambda Pi Eta. “The society allows for public recognition of both scholastic excellence and commitment to community service.”

In order to be inducted, members must have completed 60 credit hours of coursework, 12 of which must be communication department credits; have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a departmental GPA of 3.25; have good University standing; and have performed six hours of community service through one of the organization’s four service committees: academic and career development, communication outreach, event planning and fundraising.

At the ceremony, Lambda Pi Eta will hand out two awards to special guests.

The Ethos Award, presented annually to a Villanova communication alumnus who has pursued character and excellence in the communication field, will be presented to professor Hezekiah Lewis.

The Distinguished Service Award will be given to James Crowley, who has been instrumental in developing the Vatican Internship Program at Villanova.

“The ceremony will be a wonderful event, and we look forward to honoring the students and all those who have helped them with their achievement,” Popowski said.
