10 Totally Random Questions for Maria Benvenuto

Deanna Crusco

1.What was the best dessert you had this past Thanksgiving? Why?

My aunt’s apple crumb pie. She topped it with vanilla ice cream and caramel. So. Good.

2. Does your family have any special holiday traditions that happen every year on Christmas?

I’m the oldest of three so growing up it was really nice to have my brother and sister still believe in Santa, even after I stopped. Ever since I found out the big secret, I always help my mom carry up all the presents and put them under the tree…which is sneakier than you would think. My sister always acts like a little detective, so we have to pretend to fall asleep and wait a while before we can start!

3. Would you rather be woken up by the song “Talk Dirty To Me” every day for the rest of your life, or only be able to sing the lyrics to “Drunk in Love” every time you try to sing along to any song?

I mean the first time I heard “Drunk in Love” I made up my own lyrics…I always thought the part that says “we wake up in the morning saying how the hell did this ish happen” was “we wake up in the morning saying hi to healthy dishes.” So if I got to keep making up my own lyrics, I would totes choose to sing “Drunk in Love.”

4. Date, marry, kill: Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pancakes, Sparket pizza.

Never had a Sparket pizza, so I would kill that. I would marry pancakes, because there’s so many ways to make them. Which means that I would date pumpkin spice lattes…I’m not a huge fan of them anyway and since they are seasonal as it is, a quick fix is all I would need.

5. If you could travel through time, which time period would you prefer to live in?

That’s tough! I think I would probs go back to the ’90’s when I was still a kid and the only thing on my schedule for the night was watch the “Rugrats” followed by “Rocket Power” (of course), when the Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child were still on the radio and when I could rock ring pops as actual jewelry when I went out! So care-free!

6. Where is your favorite place to people watch on campus?

I love sitting on the benches outside of Falvey. The grotto is right in front of you, and no matter what season it is its always gorgeous! It’s a great place for a study break!

7. Since the New Year is right around the corner, any exciting resolutions in mind?

This New Year I want to make a conscious effort to be grateful for all of my blessings. I think that it’s so easy for me to get caught up in everyday life and school and turn little things into big problems. So this New Year I really want to try to catch myself anytime I start thinking that I’m having a bad day and find the positives in my day.

8. What are you most looking forward to about going to law school?

Wow. Ummm well I’ve heard some pretty scary stuff about law school. But, I also think that it will be interesting to challenge myself. I mean, I never would have imagined doing half of the things I’ve done at ’Nova if I didn’t push myself to come here. I’m just really excited for what I’ll be able to do once I get my degree. I want to be a civil rights lawyer and advocate for basic human rights.

9. What is your favorite activity you’ve been involved in on campus? Why?

Service break trips. Hands down. I have been on five total. Each experience is so unique, yet each time I come back I can’t help but feel a sense of solidarity with the people there. I have met some truly incredible people on those trips, many of which have become my closest friends.

10.  Favorite winter activity?

I looovvveee to ski! I’ve been skiing since I was five years old. I’m not good at all of the jumps and half pipes and stuff, but each time I go I try them expecting this miraculous skill to just appear (hasn’t yet). Maybe one day I’ll get lucky!  🙂
