Bored of your week-in, week-out routine? Switch it up without breaking the bank. Philadelphia is just a short train ride away and is home to a number of budget-friendly, pace-changing events that often go overlooked by students.

The Trocadero, located in Philadelphia’s Chinatown, is typically a go-to spot for concerts, but on Mondays, the venue transforms to become a unique movie-going experience.

Nearly every Monday, movies ranging from recent releases to seasonly-appropriate classics (Hocus  Pocus was a recent Halloween-themed showing) are played on the The Troc’s big screen.

Admission to the second-floor balcony setting is only $3 and includes a complimentary drink or snack.

The atmosphere is fun and casual —fellow moviegoers are typically friendly, and there is often running commentary and laughter during the showings. Subtitles ensure this doesn’t mean missing any of the plotline.

The catch? You must be 21 or over to get in. For those who are though, The Troc’s bar, conveniently located near the balcony’s entrance, as plenty of drink specials to offer.

Upcoming showings include “Seven” (Nov. 6) and Full Metal Jacket (Nov. 13). For more information and future showing annoucements, visit The Trocadero’s website.
