Content warning: mentions of sexual assault.
On Sunday, Dec. 7 at 5:08 p.m., Villanova University’s Department of Public Safety issued a campus-wide email disclosing a safety alert of a rape reported on campus. The alert stated that a female guest reported being raped by a male resident student on Dec. 6, 2025 in a university residence hall.
According to the email, the Department of Public Safety received the report of rape from the female guest on Dec. 7, 2025. As explained by the email, the guest and the resident student were known to each other.
“Out of respect for the victim’s privacy, and to not compromise the ongoing investigation, additional information cannot be shared at this time,” the email said.
The message explained that the safety alerts are issued to inform the campus community of serious crimes under the Clery Act and to promote awareness.
“In instances of sexual assault, there are many factors involved in determining whether a Safety Alert is sent,” the email said. “Whether an alert is sent does not diminish any individual incident or the harm done.”
The statement also provided information about campus resources and reporting options.
This is an ongoing story. The Villanovan will provide timely updates as new information becomes available.
