Buzzkill: pay it forward

In this week’s issue of Time Magazine, there is an article which questions the practice of “bribing” students in return for improved academic performance, behavior and attendance. This new initiative is currently being tested in cities across the country.  Rewards vary from $2 for early elementary school students who read a book and pass a quiz on it to  $50 for high school freshmen for each ‘A’ they receive on exams. Although this system appears to have facilitated positive changes for students who would have otherwise fallen through the cracks, it is not without critics.
