When inquiring about the University’s alcohol policy, one is usually met with the answer that the campus is neither dry nor wet, but moist. All underage drinking is prohibited, but residents who are above the legal drinking age are allowed to possess and consume moderate amounts of alcohol in their own rooms. This flexing policy, designed both to protect students and to endow them with a sense of freedom and responsibility, is lauded by some for being appropriate and functional and criticized by others for being ineffective and confusing.
