The Wildcats lost in a blowout to Navy at the Tose Family Fitness Center in Annapolis, Md., on Saturday morning. Navy emerged victorious by a final score of 6-1, improving to 4-1 on the season. The loss was Villanova’s spring season opener.

Sophomore Ryan Peyton was the one bright spot for the Wildcats.  Playing in the No. 5 singles spot for the ‘Cats, he improved to 8-3 overall this year after his win in straight sets over Blake Daniel, 7-5, 6-1.

Navy clinched the singles point as Tyler Burnett defeated Wildcat freshman Michael Rosengren, 6-4, 6-2. All of the singles matches resulted in straight set victories.

Villanova did not fare well in the doubles contests either. The Wildcats were swept in three matches as Navy continued to look dominant. Peyton and Rosengren played together in the No. 3 doubles spot and were defeated, 8-4.

The men’s tennis team will be back in action on Feb. 10, facing off against Bryant University in East Hartford, Conn. They will then travel to Stamford, Conn., to take on Fairfield University the following day. Villanova’s first Big East matchup will be a home contest against Connecticut on April 1.
