Connor Kirst scored on the first possession of overtime to give Villanova an 11-10 road victory over No. 1 ranked Yale on Saturday.

It was the second year in a row that the Wildcats defeated the Bulldogs in overtime, and marked the 100th career victory for head coach Mike Corrado.

Joey Froccaro and Keegan Khan scored three goals apiece, and Colin Crowley added two goals and an assist to give the ‘Cats their first win of the young season.

After Yale took a 5-2 lead with 12:17 remaining in the second quarter, ‘Nova reeled off three straight goals to close the first half with the game tied at five.

The ‘Cats continued their momentum in the second half, taking a 10-7 lead with just 12:44 remaining in the game. The defending National Champions would fight back, however. Yale’s Joseph Sessa knotted the game at 10 with 2:43 to play, a score line that would hold until the end of regulation.

Kirst’s overtime goal was his first of the season and clinched a much needed win for a Villanova team that had dropped their season opener, 17-7, to Penn State University.
