As January left and February began, the change was accompanied by a new single by Wallows. The San Fernando Valley band’s “Are You Bored Yet? (feat. Clairo)” is a laid-back single that still manages to swiftly roll through its rhythms and compelling lyrics. The song will be part of Wallows’ upcoming album, “Nothing Happens,” which is due on March 22. The album will be the band’s first full-length project. In the following months, the band will tour the United States and Europe. They will perform at Union Transfer, Philadelphia on May 6 and at Irving Plaza, New York on May 8th.

The hypnotic sounds of “Are You Bored Yet?” mark a more retro-touched direction for the band. The alternative-rock trio has previously favored heavier tones in songs such as, “Pleaser” and “Pictures of Girls.” However, other prior tunes such as “1980s Horror Film II” and “These Days” may have been a premonition for the themes apparent in “Are You Bored Yet?” Featuring singer Clairo was an excellent choice, perfectly matching the song’s aesthetic and blending well with the singing of vocalist Dylan Minnette. The single’s lyrics make it hauntingly beautiful. Questions shoot back and forth between Minnette and Clairo, including, “Will you tell the truth, so I don’t have to lie?” Music fans should look for more to come from Wallows in the upcoming months after this big start to 2019.
