Cats Split Duel at West Virginia and Get Swept by Penn State

Villanova Swimming went down to West Virginia on Thursday and up to Penn State on Friday for back-to-back meets. At West Virginia, the women were able to come up with a close 156-144 win, while the men lost 195-96. At Penn State, the women fell to the Nittany Lions 167.5-93.5, while the men also fell 180-79. 

In West Virginia, the women were led by three golds and a silver for Milly Routledge in the 100 yd Freestyle, 200 yd Freestyle, 200 yd Freestyle relay and 400 Medley relay. Nicole Welch got two golds in the 1000 yd Freestyle and 500 yd Freestyle. Kelly Montessi earned gold in 200 yd IM, silver in the 200 yd butterfly and was teamed with Routledge in the 400 yd Medley relay. Rayann Jaryszak finished with a gold, silver and two bronzes. 

On the men’s side, Jake McIntyre finished with two silvers in the two long-distance events. Stephen Krecsmar finished with three silvers in the 200 yd relay, 100 yd Butterfly, and 50 yd Freestyle. Andrew Kelley added two silvers, including 200 yd Backstroke and 200 yd relay. Jackson Kabas, Mishko Prikasky and Reid Hutcherson also added a silver to the total. Michael Perra added a silver in the three-meter diving event. 

At Penn State on the men’s side, Justin Cucchi had two golds in the 200 yd relay along with Andrew Kelley, Steve Krecsmar and JJ Strain in the 200 yd Backstroke. Jordan Fetterman added a gold in the 200 yd IM. Mishko Prikasky added a silver in the 200 yd IM, and Villanova took second in the 200 yd Freestyle, with a team of Jale McIntyre, Reid Hutcherson, Jackson Kabas and Ryan Maher. 

On the women’s side, Nicole Welch had a gold and silver in the two long-distance events. Kelly finished with a gold in the 200 yd IM and a silver in the 200 yd butterfly. Milly Routledge finished second in the 100 yd freestyle and the 50 yd freestyle. In the 200 yd backstroke, Kaitlin Gravell finished first and Rayann Jaryszak finished second. Villanova also finished second in the 200 yd relay with the team of Abbey Berloco, Anastasia Kontrimas, Perri Stahl and Milly Routledge. 

These events concluded regular season play for the Wildcats, who now go into the Big East Tournament (Feb. 26-29).
