On Monday, Dec. 22, it was reported that Villanova sophomore running back David Avit will enter the transfer portal, he told On3Sports’ Pete Nakos.
Avit confirmed the report with a repost on his X account.
Avit led Villanova’s running back room for the last two seasons. This season, he rushed for 687 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games before suffering a knee injury against Towson on Nov. 8. He missed the following five games, but returned against Illinois State in the FCS semifinals last weekend. However, he only had two carries in the first half.
As a true freshman last year, the 6-foot, 225-pound running back was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive Rookie of the Year after rushing for a program rookie record of 923 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 173 carries.
Avit entered the transfer portal last offseason, receiving Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) offers from Stanford, South Florida and the University of Texas at El Paso. Despite the offers, Avit decided to withdraw his name from the transfer portal and remain on the Main Line for another season.
As of Tuesday, Dec. 23, four Wildcats have entered the portal, including Avit. The other three include sophomore cornerback Zahmir Dawud, redshirt freshman defensive back Anthony Hawkins and junior defensive lineman Capri Martin.
