On Friday, Dec. 19, Villanova women’s basketball defeated Seton Hall, 72-55, in its second conference game of the season at the Finneran Pavilion.
Villanova (9-2, 2-0 Big East) is now on a seven-game win streak with the win over Seton Hall (7-3, 1-1 Big East). The Wildcats were 30-for-68 (44%) from field goal range and went 12-for-34 (35%) from the three-point line. Villanova won the rebounding battle, 41-36.
Sophomore guard Jasmine Bascoe led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Ryanne Allen followed behind with 19 points off the bench. Freshman forward Brooke Bender added nine as well and went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
It was a slow start for the Wildcats, not scoring until theseven-minutee mark when Bascoe got things going with a triple and a steal. Shots were not falling for either team. The Wildcats finally took the lead in the back half of the quarter and ended it with a 12-11 lead.
Allen dominated the second period. Junior guard Kelsey Joens and Allen maintained the lead with back-to-back three-pointers. Allen added another to put Villanova up, 26-20.
Allen scored a team-high 15 first-half points off five three-pointers to put Villanova up, 35-25, over Seton Hall at halftime.
In the third quarter, Villanova began to run away with its lead. Denae Carter opened up the third quarter with a layup, while Bender tacked on another three-pointer. Villanova continued to pick apart the Pirates from the three-point line. The Wildcats finished the third quarter leading, 60-39.
The momentum continued through the fourth period, and Villanova managed to hold onto its double-digit lead.
Seton Hall was led by guard Jada Eads, scoring 12 points andtotaledg four rebounds.
The win over Seton Hall puts Villanova on a seven-game win streak. Villanova has not lost since it fell to Princeton, 73-68.
Villanova now will return on Monday, Dec. 22, when it hosts St. John’s (11-2, 1-1 Big East). The Wildcats will be looking to extend their win streak to eight and remain undefeated in Big East competition (noon, ESPN+).
