The Villanovan has confirmed that sophomore guard Tyler Perkins will return to the Villanova roster for the 2025-26 season.
Jeff Neiburg of the Philadelphia Inquirer was first to announce the news on X that Perkins and redshirt freshman forward Matt Hodge are the only scholarship players from the 2024-2025 set to return for Kevin Willard’s first season as head coach.
As a sophomore at Villanova, Perkins became the team’s “sixth starter.” He averaged 25.8 minutes, 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest.
Perkins made an impact off the bench and helped bring in key wins during the season. The Wildcats held a 9-1 record when Perkins scored ten or more points. Notable performances included a 17-point outing against Seton Hall in the Big East opener on Dec. 17 and a season-high 20 points and five rebounds in a 80-68 win over Xavier on Feb. 9.
Perkins’ biggest moment as a Wildcat came in the 73-71 victory over No. 9 St. John’s on Feb 12. With nine seconds left in the game, Perkins drained the game-winning triple.
In the Big East Tournament, he averaged 27 minutes, four points and six rebounds per contest.
Perkins averaged nine points per game in the inaugural College Basketball Crown. In the season finale, Perkins dropped 18 points in the 104-98 overtime loss to UCF in the semifinals on April 5.
He first committed to Villanova on April 14, 2024 after a successful freshman season at the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, Perkins was the Quakers second leading scorer during the 2023-24 season, with 13.7 points per contest. He was also Penn’s second leading rebounder with 5.3 per game.
A three-star prospect out of Landon High School, Perkins will have two years of eligibility remaining.
