EMPOWER ADULTS WITH THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING!Become a volunteer Lutheran Settlement House’s Community Education and Employment Department (CEED) is looking for volunteers to tutor our beginner readers to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. About CEED: Each year, the LSH’s Educational and Employment program enables 1,000 adults to fulfill their educational goals and improve their employment skills. We offer a full range of adult education courses including: English as a SEcond Language (ESL), literacy, Adult Basic Education, and GED. Benefits: We provide a free tutor workshop, instructional materials, ongoing support, and an opportunity to work with adult learners. Flexible scheduling to work one-on-one or in small group settings. Convenient to public transportation Requirements: We ask for a commitment of 3 Hrs a week for a period up to 6 months Tutors must register in advance and attend all three workshop sessions for a total of 9 Hrs. About Lutheran Settlement House: (LSH) was founded in 1902 as part of Lutheran Social Mission of Philadelphia. Since it’s inception, LSH has served vulnerable children, adults and families living in inner city Philadelphia regardless of race, religion or culture. Our Mission: Is to empower individuals, families and communities to achieve and mantain self-sufficiency through an integrated program of social educational and advocacy services. Our Services: In 2002-2003 almost 20,000 individuals were served through LSH programs. Services today include: The Senior Center and Senior Support Services.
