Three Wildcats earned Big East Weekly Honors heading into the match.
Sophomore goalie Anthony Wilson won Big East Defensive Player of the Week, graduate long stick midfielder Stephen Zupicich earned Big East Specialist of the Week and senior attack Matt Licata was awarded a spot on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll.
Coming off its best performance of the season last week against Navy, Villanova brought its momentum against Brown in a physical battle.
Redshirt freshman attack Colin Michener had a stellar performance, scoring four of Villanova’s nine goals in the matchup.
Michener started the game off with a goal, tallying his 21st of the season.
Brown responded five minutes later to tie the game, 1-1.
Michener found the back of the net again to put Villanova back on top, 2-1, but Brown tied the game once again.
In the second period, Michener continued his outstanding performance, scoring two more goals to give Villanova a two-goal lead, making the score 4-2.
Brown added to the scoreboard, cutting the Villanova lead to make the score 4-3.
Graduate midfielder Mason Reale got on the scoreboard, giving Villanova another two goal advantage.
Villanova headed into the locker room up, 5-3.
Brown opened up the second half with a goal from midfield, making the score 5-4.
After a scoreless period for Villanova, the Wildcats headed into the final quarter up by one.
Junior midfielder Tyler Boes ended the scoring drought for Villanova, making the score 6-4.
Junior attack Dan Martin scored to put Villanova up by three.
Reale added another to his name, giving Villanova a more secure lead, 8-4.
Brown scored again, but senior attack Matt Licata responded shortly after, changing the scoreboard, 9-5, with three minutes left in the game.
Villanova men’s lacrosse is back in action on Saturday, March 30, at 12 p.m. when it faces Denver.
