To the Editor:While I applaud Mr. Knabb’s suggestion that the dynamic and accomplished Anna Quindlen might make an ideal guest speaker at Villanova, I sincerely doubt that she would accept an invitation after being all but forced to step down as Villanova’s 1999 commencement speaker when faced with protests from students who disagreed with certain of her views. Apparently, views and actions deemed by some (though certainly not all) to be wrong are neither welcomed nor worthy of even being heard. Indeed, I wonder if it is this increasingly rampant close-mindedness in American society that stole a brilliant professor, a caring mother, and a friend from us this summer.

Sincerely,Edward J. LynchClass of 1999
