2005 Keystone State Rock Paper Scissors Championship to be held on October 8th in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, September 19, 2005 -The Keystone Classic Planning Committee is pleased to announce the inaugural Rock Paper Scissors (RPS) Keystone Classic. The Classic will bring the region’s premier RPS players, together with unranked amateurs, to Philadelphia to compete for the trophy, $1,000 purse, and championship title.

The World RPS Society, the international governing body of competitive Rock Paper Scissors, has officially sanctioned this event. This makes it one of only a handful of sanctioned RPS events across the globe. The Keystone Classic will be the last major U.S. Tournament this year leading up to the International World Championships in Toronto on October 22nd.

“Philadelphia was originally scouted as a location for the 2006 Northeast US Championships. Upon witnessing the RPS fever that has infected the City, we knew that there needed to be a yearly event established that would quench Philadelphia’s massive thirst for the sport. It is a perfect fit.” Said Shawn Ring, Tournament Coordinator. “But this will not be just a local tournament. We expect competitors from not only the Tri-State area, but as far north as Montreal and as far south as the District of Columbia”.

The 2005 RPS Keystone Classic will take place at Whiskey Dix Saloon, 421 North 7th Street, Philadelphia on October 8th, 2005. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., with qualifying rounds beginning at 8:00 p.m. Competitors can purchase tickets in advance at www.northeastrpschamps.com for $9.00 or at the door for $10.00. The number of competitors is locked at 128 with competition spots granted on a first come, first served basis. Johnny Goodtimes, voted 2004 “Best Local Celebrity” by the City Paper and widely recognized as the quizzo king of Philadelphia, will be hosting the event.
