Dear Editor,

As a Villanova graduate and a female scientist, I wanted to refute a couple points in the article “The Woman in the Lab Coat”. The reporter is perpetuating an image of scientific careers which does not mesh with my personal experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Most of the major pharmaceutical companies are in Working Mother magazine’s 100 best companies for working mothers. My employer, Bristol-Myers Squibb offers excellent maternity leave, good job security while on leave, on-site daycare, flexible work options, and more. Now that more women are having children well into their 30’s, we no longer need to sacrifice family for career or vice versa.
