The Seton Hall Pirates braved the elements to travel to the Pavilion in the snow and take on the women’s basketball team on Saturday for the Big East TV Game of the Week. After a tight scoring game, Seton Hall ultimately overtook the ‘Cats with a score of 53-49.

Redshirt freshman forward Laura Sweeney tallied another eight rebounds and six points. Redshirt freshman forward Emily Suhey and junior center Heather Scanlon added six points apiece. Redshirt freshman forward Megan Pearson dished out a team-high five assists. The Wildcats shot 50 percent from the foul line.

The teams fought closely for the entire game with the spread staying under eight points. Down four points at halftime, the Wildcats started the second half on an 11-3 run including back-to-back 3-pointers from Jones and Getty.

The ‘Cats kept the lead 32-28 with 14:34 remaining. A Sweeney lay-up gave the Wildcats their largest lead with a score of 36-30 with 11:34 on the clock. Baskets from both Sweeney and Suhey increased the lead to five with 7:31 left.

In the last stretch of the game, Seton Hall cruised on a run, outscoring the ‘Cats 13-4 in the final seven minutes. The Pirates took the final lead of the game with a pull-up jumper with a mere 90 seconds remaining. Jones fought back with a layup in the next possession to retake the lead but again was answered right away by Seton Hall with 44 seconds to ultimately clinch the game. The Pirates sealed the win at the free throw line.

On Tuesday, the women continued to struggle in conference play, falling to South Florida 61-51 on the road.
