The Villanova men’s tennis team picked up their first victory of the 2010 spring season last Saturday against Sacret Heart University at the Yale Indoor Tennis Courts. Villanova (2-11) dropped Sacred Heart (8-6-1) on the road by a score of 4-3.

Villanova lost all three doubles matches but won four of the five singles matches at spots two through five to seal the victory.

David Shaheen, Connor Witty, Alex Hanno and Trenton Alenik defeated Sacred Heart’s Chris Ujkic, Nick Mazzarese, Michael Syer and Chadd Sullo, respectively. Alex Leeser fell in a difficult match to Sacred Heart’s Kirill Kasyanov at the number one spot, and Shaheen took his match at the number two spot into a third set.

After that, Villanova set the Sacred Heart Pioneers down in straight sets in singles.

In doubles, Villanova’s pairings of Rafael Santiago and David Shaheen, Alex Hanno and Alex Leeser and Trenton Alenik and John Drosick fell to Sacred Heart’s top three doubles tandems.

The Wildcats’ next match is this Saturday against Bucknell (1-8), a winnable game. The match will be held at the Villanova Tennis Complex, and the scheduled start time is 1:30 p.m.
