On Wednesday, July 23, Czech professional basketball team ERA Basketball Nymburk announced the signing of former Villanova guard Jhamir Brickus.
Brickus, 24, played five seasons of college basketball across La Salle University (four seasons) and Villanova (one season). He started in all of Villanova’s 36 games, averaging 9.3 points, 4.7 assists and 1.9 rebounds.
His 170 assists last season are tied for sixth on Villanova’s single-season assists rankings.
The 5-9 guard shot 47.3% on three-pointers as a Wildcat and was ranked as the 10th most accurate three-point shooter in the NCAA with at least two three-pointers per contest.
“I was impressed by how mature Jhamir is for his age and how resilient he is as a person,” Nymburk coach Oren Amiel said in the release. “We were looking for hungry players who want to develop their game, win, and believe in our project. Jhamir meets all those criteria. Jhamir creates opportunities for others, can score himself, and I can also imagine him playing alongside our point guard Ondra Sehnal if needed.”
ERA Basketball Nymburk is a part of the National Basketball League (NBL). It is the most successful team in the NBL, winning 19 titles since the 2003-04 season. For reference, the second best team in the NBL only has five titles.
Brickus and ERA Basketball Nymburk will tip off their season on Sept. 27, against Slavia Prague at the Hala Slavia – Eden sports venue.
