This past Sunday the Wildcats defeated the Delaware Blue Hens 2-1 at the Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium in Newark Delaware on the 15th anniversary of 9/11. The Blue Hens were looking to maintain their perfect record with another win, while the Wildcats were looking to pickup their second straight win against nationally ranked opponents and improve to 3-2 on the season.

The Blue Hens got off to a fast start scoring during the first minute of play. Guillermo Delgado fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the Wildcat’s goal to give his team the lead.

Early in the second half the Wildcat’s nearly went down two goals to none. In the 46th minute of play the Blue Hens were awarded a penalty kick, but Junior Goalkeeper Will Steiner came up big to keep the Wildcats within one.

Riding the momentum of Steiner’s big save the Wildcat’s stormed back down the field and tied the game in the 47th minute. The goal was scored by senior Padraic McCullaugh who slotted home from 15 yards out.

Having flipped the script on the nationally ranked Blue Hens, the Wildcats struck again in the 61st minute to go ahead two goals to one. Junior, Lucas Hodges played a cross into fellow junior, Miguel Polley who scored the winning goal from 8 yards out.

Some fine saves from keeper Will Steiner and two clinical finishes from McCullaugh and Polley saw the Wildcats rally past the Blue Hens and register their second straight win over a nationally ranked opponent in 7 days.

The Wildcat’s next game is at home against the 4-0-1 Butler Bulldogs on the 17th. This will be the first game against a conference rival for the Wildcats, who will look to continue their win streak against the formidable Bulldogs.
