On Thursday, July 17, the Big 5 announced the Big 5 women’s basketball schedule for the 2025-26 season. The women’s Big 5 Classic will return for its second season, hosted by Villanova at the Finneran Pavilion on Sunday, Dec. 7.
The women’s Big 5 pods have been altered this season, exactly as the men’s pods were last week. Villanova will now be in Pod 2 with Temple University and La Salle University. Pod 1 is made up of Saint Joseph’s University, the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel.
Last season, Villanova hosted the inaugural women’s Big 5 Classic at the Finneran Pavilion. Villanova was defeated by Temple in the Big 5 Championship.
The Wildcats’ Big 5 slate begins on Saturday, Nov. 22, against Temple at home. Villanova leads the all-time series against Temple, 34-18, and has won three of the last five meetings.
In what could be back-to-back Big 5 games, Villanova will turn around to face La Salle on Tuesday, Nov. 25, on the road at the newly remodeled John E. Glaser Arena. The Wildcats have dominated the Explorers historically and hold an all-time series lead of 46-9.
The two pod games will determine the placement of teams for the Big 5 Women’s Classic triple header on Dec. 7. This date is a change from last year’s women’s classic, which was hosted the Friday before the men’s classic at the Wells Fargo Center. Now, the women will play the following day after the men’s Big 5 Classic.
The winner of the two pods will face off in the Big 5 Championship. The other four teams will play in fifth and third place games leading up to the championship to cap off the night.
Villanova women’s basketball’s full regular season schedule has not been announced. The details are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
