On Monday, April 14, former Villanova four-star commit Dante Allen announced his recommitment to the University of Miami.
Joe Tipton of On3Sports first reported the news before Allen, a Miami native and son of former Wildcat Malik Allen (1996-2000), confirmed it on Instagram.
Prior to the change in leadership, Allen was Villanova’s lone class of 2025 commit, the last recruit of the Neptune era.
Allen first signed his National Letter of Intent to play at Villanova in November. Following former head coach Kyle Neptune’s firing on March 15, Allen was automatically granted a release from his National Letter of Intent.
On March 21, he announced he would be reopening his recruitment.
“After careful consideration, Dante has made the decision to re-open his recruitment,” Allen and his father said in a statement on Instagram. “Our family is forever grateful for the role Villanova University has played in our life. Dante formed a special bond with the coaching staff there. Given the recent announcement of a leadership change, we feel it is best to explore our options as Dante considers his next step.”
Allen’s search for a new team lasted nearly a month, while Villanova remained on Allen’s list.
As a top high school player in Florida, Allen held 15 Division-I offers and won two state championships with Montverde.
Allen’s AAU coach, Andrew Moran, was recently hired as an assistant by Miami first-year head coach Jai Lucas. Moran played a big role in Allen’s development into an elite-level prospect while he attended basketball powerhouse Montverde Academy in central Florida.
As an incoming freshman, Allen will have four years of eligibility playing at Miami.
