After missing the entirety of the 2023-24 season recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, junior forward Trey Patterson has entered the transfer portal.
The New Jersey native announced the move with a statement posted to his social media feeds Wednesday afternoon. He will enter the portal as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining.
“The Villanova community will always hold a special place in my heart, but after conversations with my family, we feel it is in my best interest to enter my name in the transfer portal,” Patterson said in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In his time at Villanova, Patterson struggled to find playing time. He appeared in 22 games for the Wildcats in the 2022-23 season, totaling 152 minutes. Patterson scored 19 points over his 40 career games with the ‘Cats. He averaged one rebound per game.
“My story is still being written, and I can’t wait to embark on this next chapter of my life,” Patterson wrote on X.
Patterson was a four-star recruit in the high school class of 2020. He was ranked as the fourth-best high school prospect in New Jersey by 247Sports. Patterson had 24 scholarship offers coming out of Rutgers Prep.
With Patterson entering the portal, another scholarship spot will open up for the ‘Cats. Villanova currently has two spots available for recruits, though more could open up depending on the decision of others on the roster to return or depart, including redshirt senior Eric Dixon.
The transfer portal will close on Wednesday, May 1. More than 900 men’s basketball players have entered the portal already.
