Golf: Bergman places 10th after first day of Big East Championships

The golf team was in action again this past weekend at the Big East Championship at the Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky. Cincinnati hosted the event, which took place over a span of three days on a course measuring over 7,100 yards and following a par-72 format.

Junior Brett Bergman led the Wildcats at the end of the first day. He found himself tied for 10th in a field of 60 golfers with a round of 73. Freshman Conor Casey was the next in line with a score of 75, putting him in a tie for 21st. Fellow freshman Colin List continued his strong play from the Princeton Invitational and scored a 76.

At the end of the first day, Villanova as a team struggled and was on the bottom end at 11th place.

However, ‘Nova made a push forward in the second round, moving up from 11th to be tied for eighth. Bergman and Casey continued their strong play, each scoring 74. Bergman improved his score by one stroke, advancing to ninth place in the process. Casey’s play helped him jump seven places and put him in a tie for 14th. List managed to go up a spot to 27th despite struggling and shooting three strokes over par. — C.M.
