Major: Math
Anna Carey is a member of the all girls a cappella group Nothing But Treble (NBT). Last Friday NBT held their first concert in St. Mary’s.
Joanna Carbone: Tell me something about NBT
Anna Carey: “Currently we have 11 girls, but we are holding auditions on January 30th so more girls can join!”
JC: What goes into the preparation for NBT concerts?
AC: “Usually we aim to learn about 8-11 songs a semester. We take turns with who is going to arrange the song. We try and pick songs that will appease a general audience, but are also fun for us to perform.”
JC: How often do you rehearse?
AC: “We have rehearsals about two to three times a week.”
JC: What is coming up for NBT that we can look forward to?
AC: “Every semester we have two concerts. This semester we still have our end of semester concert, and of course a cappella palooza! Palooza is a lot of fun because all seven campus groups perform and that only happens twice a year.”
JC: How did you get into a cappella?
AC: “I auditioned the second week of freshman year. I was a nervous wreck. I always loved music, so I wanted an outlet that would let me continue that at Villanova. I auditioned for all five groups and then ended up in NBT. It was really great because I became friends with upperclassmen and found a set group of people I could always turn to. A cappella was not only my musical outlet, but it also became a huge learning experience for me, as well as a way to meet people in the other a cappella groups on campus!
