As another fall semester begins at the University and students settle into classes, the women’s volleyball season is firing on all cylinders.

The Wildcats opened up their season on Aug. 25 with a 3-0 victory over Liberty University at the University of Virginia Tournament and went undefeated for the duration of the weekend. The team marched to victory over Hostra and UVA en route to 3-0 start to the 2017 fall season.

Junior middle blocker Amanda Pedersen-Henry posted an incredible stat line which earned her tournament MVP. She posted 3.42 kills/set, 1.08 digs/set and a .413 hitting percentage during the tournament. Fellow teammates Darcy Wolf and Regan Lough earned spots on the all-tournament team due to their impressive performances.

The team currently sits at 4-2 and competed in the University of San Diego Tournament over the weekend. The Wildcats faced number No. 17 San Diego, No. 4 Texas and Georgia Tech during their trip. Although they finished with a 1-2 record for the weekend, the team had the opportunity to play top competition at an early point in the season. With only two seniors on the roster this season, Head Coach, Josh Steinbach’s young team had its work cut out for them with such a tough schedule.

Steinbach, who is entering his 11th year at the helm of the program, holds the record for the most victories (166) in program history and will undoubtedbly add to his total signifigantly by the end of this season with such a talented young roster.

During the 2016 season, the Wildcats compiled a 18-13 record and finished 6sixthin the BIG EAST conference. They were defeated by eventual champion and powerhouse Creighton in the BIG EAST tournament. Creighton has won the BIG EAST Championship three times since joining the conference in 2013.

The Wildcats host the Villanova Classic this weekend with games against Albany, UConn and Princeton.
