The sun is out, the birds are singing and the semester is drawing to a close. As the weekends before summer dwindle and finals begin their approach, it may seem daunting to make plans with friends, study for finals and maintain a healthy social life. Well, lucky for you, the University has numerous events planned for the upcoming weekend that make it easy for students to keep up with their studies and participate in the community before summer arrives.

Next weekend, the Villanova A Cappella community continues its end-of-the-semester concerts with a performance from Vocal Minority and the Villanova Sirens on Sunday at 2:00 PM. This will conclude the Office of Music Activities’ end-of-semester concerts. The concerts kicked off last Saturday night with a performance from the Villanova Spires and Nothing But Treble.

The groups showcased what they had been working on all semester, including songs from A Cappella Palooza and new works. Highlights from the night include Nothing But Treble’s opening performance of Ariana Grande’s “Greedy,” soloed by Genny Dixon and the Villanova Spires’ performance of Sam Smith’s “Writing On The Wall,” soloed by graduating member Athul Rajesh.

The performances continued on Sunday with a concert from Minor Problem and the Villanova Supernovas in the afternoon and the Villanova Haveners in the evening. Minor Problem delivered an intense performance of The Head and the Heart’s song “Rivers and Roads,” performed by senior Mitch Breitenbach, and the Villanova Supernovas stunned with their opening performance of Ansel Elgort’s “Thief.” The Villanova Haveners concluded the weekend with a heartfelt farewell to their seven graduating seniors, who sang a touching goodbye to their group in Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love.” Don’t miss your last chance to experience Villanova A Cappella this semester at Vocal Minority and the Villanova Sirens concert at 2:00 PM, Sunday in Driscoll 134.

If A Cappella really isn’t your thing, you’re in luck. This weekend also happens to be the Campus Activities Team Spring Out Weekend. Last year, the University invited indie-rock band from Los Angeles California Saint Motel to play in what became known as the Pavilion Farewell Party. This year, Philadelphia native Vinyl Theatre will play the Spring Out weekend, with Villanova bands including Vasey Hall, Shock Value and The Morning Herald as the opening acts. This concert will take place at the Ardmore Music Hall at 7:00 PM on April 26.

The Spring Out Festival continues this weekend, with the intention to highlight the University’s various cultural organizations on campus.

The event hopes to highlight the diversity of the University and represent that Villanova truly is a place for everyone. The late afternoon event will consist of various food trucks, music and activities from around the world. The event leads into the Spring Out showcase that night, with performances from Villanova A Cappella groups and various dance groups on campus from 7-9:00 PM.

Another wonderful opportunity to relax this weekend is at the theater. Villanova Student Musical Theater is staging its third and final show of the year. “Be More Chill,” a musical with lyrics and music by Joe Iconis and book by Joe Tracz, is about high school student Jeremy and his attempts to find self-confidence in the daunting world that is high school. It is directed by sophomore Stephen McDonnell and senior John Lauer.

The show features freshman Joseph Verga as protagonist Jeremy Heere and sophomore Brian Jacko as Jeremy’s longtime best friend Michael Mell. Villanova Student Musical Theater has put on magnificent shows, such as the murder-musical-mystery “Curtains” in the fall and the extravagant “Into the Woods” in the winter. Don’t miss your chance to experience their last performance of the year.

There are a lot of great opportunities to get out on campus—this is just a sampling of what is going on this upcoming weekend.

Although the semester is drawing to a close, there is still enough time to immerse yourself in the  University’s talented musical scene. With finals causing so much stress, taking a well-earned break to experience the culture the University has to offer.
