The Villanova men’s basketball season has been over for two weeks now, and the national championship victory is starting to wear off. Fortunately for us, many of the University’s spring sports are in still in full swing. To catch up on what was missed during the madness, here are some midseason recaps: 

Men’s Lacrosse (8-4) The most recent poll released by the NCAA has the Wildcats ranked eighth in the nation after a strong start to their season. Exciting wins over Penn State, Yale and Delaware have been highlights among their first 12 games. Perhaps most impressive is their 5-0 away record, which has provided the bulk of their eight wins. The Wildcats’ attack is led by Christian Cuccinello, Keegan Khan and Danny Seibel, who have 28, 26 and 25 goals, respectively. On the year, Cuccinello leads the team in points with 45. 

Women’s Lacrosse (6-7) The Wildcats are looking to regain some momentum after beginning the season strong with a strong 5-2 record. The team has been particularly strong at home, where it has a solid record of 3-2. Sophomore attack Katie Comerford leads the team in points with 48. Also supporting the Wildcat attack is junior Jillian Swikart, who leads the team in goals with 34. 

Softball (18-16-1) Wildcat softball is storming right now as it is in the midst of a six-game win streak.  Senior Nikki Alden leads the team with a batting average of .406 in a lineup that features five players with averages of .300 or better. On the mound, freshman Anissa Amarillas has proved her mettle as the team’s ace, leading the team with a whopping 20 starts and an earned run average of 3.80. The Wildcats’ recent sweep of Providence was much needed in the midst of a competitive conference race. Thus far, they are 4-5 in the Big East. This week, double-headers against Farleigh Dickinson and Morgan State and a conference series against Georgetown will provide plenty of opportunities for the Wildcats to continue their recent success. 

Baseball (6-22) The Wildcat baseball team is having a rough season this year, having gone 0-6 in conference play so far. On offense, Ryan Toohers, Josh Kim and center fielder David Gulati lead the way. Gulati leads the team in batting average with .307, and Toohers and Kim both have on-base percentages above .400. Senior Ryan Doty leads the team in innings pitched, headlining a pitching staff that has a respectable 4.24 ERA.
