Volleyball Beats Seton Hall in Big East Opener
September 19, 2018
Villanova’s Volleyball team squared off against the Seton Hall Pirates and came away with a resounding win of three sets to one. Villanova came into tonight’s match with a 7-5 record after dropping three straight matches against Clemson, Tulane and Arkansas-Little Rock in the Sugar Bowl Tournament in New Orleans last weekend. On the other hand, Seton Hall entered tonight’s battle with a 5-8 record and after losing two out of their last three matches in the Hofstra Invitational. With both teams coming off of a loss in their previous game, the Wildcats and Pirates were desperate for a win in their Big East openers.
The first set went back and forth as, when Villanova would make a run of consecutive points, Seton Hall would bounce back and make a run of their own to keep it close. In the concluding moments of the set, Villanova held a 23-22 lead until Seton Hall stormed back with three consecutive points to win the set. This would be the only set Pirates would win for the match as the Wildcats would win the next two sets comfortably at 25-20 and 25-21, respectively. In the third set, the Cats found themselves in a similar position as the first set, trailing 23-22. In order to stop the Seton Hall’s momentum, Nova won the next three points including two winners from Freshman Outside Hitter Clare Delaplane to win the set, and the match, 25-23.
Villanova will look to continue their momentum during family weekend as they host Georgetown on Saturday at 2 p.m.
