Wildcats Fall Twice on Weekend Road Trip
February 12, 2019
The Villanova Women’s basketball team hit the road this weekend after winning four consecutive games and putting themselves in a position to salvage their season. The road was not kind to the Wildcats however, as they faced two of the best teams in the Big East in DePaul and Marquette and lost to both.
Villanova kicked off their weekend road trip on Friday and fell to DePaul, 93-70. Villanova started the game off hot, and the Wildcats were able to gain a 19-13 lead. They held onto a 23-21 lead as the first quarter ended but were outscored, 29-10, in the second quarter. That deficit would show to be too much for Villanova, as it never really cut into DePaul’s lead. Mart’E Grays dominated for the Blue Demons, putting up 31 points and grabbing four rebounds in 29 minutes. For the Wildcats, senior Adrianna Hahn was the leader in the scoring column, scoring 17 on 7-12 shooting. Kelly Jekot contributed 13 points, and Mary Gedeka was able to add in 12 points of her own. Jannah Tucker was the 4th and final Wildcat to score in double digits, finishing with 11 points.
The Wildcats then traveled to Wisconsin to take on Marquette, which is undefeated in the Big East, 21-3 on the season, and ranked eighth in the country. That matchup did not end any better for the team. Nova lost, 93-55, to the Golden Eagles. Natisha Hiedman led the way for Marquette, scoring 22 points on 7-14 shooting, grabbing eight rebounds, and dishing out five assists. Tucker was a bright spot for the Wildcats, leading the team with 15 points and seven rebounds. Gedaka and Jakot were the only other Wildcats to score double digits, adding 12 and 11 points respectively.
After the road swing, the Wildcats record fell to 15-9 on the season and 6-7 in the Big East. They return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they take on Georgetown in the Finneran Pavilion.
