The Artist Returns: Hoops Mania to Feature a Performer

Tyler Kemp

Last season, Villanova Basketball did not incorporate a performer for Hoops Mania for the first time in 12 years. This season, the buzz around ‘Nova’s version of Midnight Madness has started to gain more traction.

This past week, an announcement was made via Twitter and Instagram that Villanova Basketball will be bringing back a performer for the 2019 rendition of Hoops Mania.

Hoops Mania is a tradition that is used to celebrate the beginning of the season for both men’s and women’s basketball. Following the announcement of both rosters, a choreographed dance number and an intrasquad scrimmage, there is usually a musical performance by an artist to end the night. 2017’s Hoops Mania did not feature the scrimmage, due to the Finneran Pavilion undergoing renovations. In 2018, there was no artist, because Villanova wanted to focus on celebrating the 2018 National Championship as well as the reopening of the Finneran Pavilion.

Villanova Basketball has had a star-studded history of musical acts for Hoops Mania, including 50 Cent, Drake, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa and most recently French Montana in 2017. Nova Nation is waiting patiently for any sort of notification or indication of who will be coming to campus to help ring in the new basketball season. All of the festivities for Hoops Mania 2019 will be taking place on Oct. 5 in the Pavilion.
