The field hockey team notched a crucial 3-2 overtime win over Bucknell on Sunday at the Proving Grounds, coming back to defeat Bucknell in dramatic fashion. Senior Abby Siana picked up the golden goal in overtime to seal the win for the Wildcats. The win moved Villanova to 4-6 on the season.

Bucknell jumped out to an early lead, with Emily Doyle scoring her first of two goals on the day in the third minute. Villanova answered back with a goal by senior Lydia Sydnor in the 25th minute. The game went into the half tied at one.

Doyle scored her second goal in the 45th minute, giving Bucknell a 2-1 lead with a quarter to go. Villanova did not panic, however, with senior Katie Capalbo scoring in the 55th minute. The score remained tied as regulation ended.

Heading into overtime the Wildcats remained confident. Head coach Joanie Milhous said, “In overtime you always want to control possession”, and Villanova did just that. They dominated the overtime period, eventually scoring the winning goal in the 68th minute. It was Siana scored the game winner, which was her third goal on the season.

Bucknell moves to 5-5 after the loss. The Wildcats head to Hamden, Conn. to face Quinnipiac on Friday, Oct. 11.
